Goodbye Indonesia - Hello Thailand

We had to say goodbye to our friends at Blue Marlin Dive.  I secretly left my Anker power bank for a person who needed it more than me.  You see, the power went out (being upgraded) for quite a few hours.  I was explaining to a kind employee how appreciative I was about how a lack of power forces people to reconnect.  I charged her phone for her and learned the power banks they have are expensive and of crappy quality.  I offered her mine for free but she would not accept.  I later asked the Blue Marlin Dive store manager to give it to her as a gift and only after I had left. It's invaluable to her and easily replaced by me.  Find a need, fill a need :-)

We hopped from Labuan Bajo in a prop plane and soon were upgraded to slightly larger Boeing 777-300 bound for Thailand.  Sweet. We landed at the monster huge Suvarnabhumi Airport.  KT had some friends recommend the Once Again Hostel. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g293916-d9558076-Reviews-Once_Again_Hostel-Bangkok.html
This place turned out to be awesome and 1 minute away from the "best" Pad Thai place in Bangkok.  We were all really fried from something and honestly could not get motivated to arrange any tours.  Perhaps it was the 15 dives or something we ate.  We chose to simply sleep, eat and chill for a few days.  It was nice.

We wanted to extend our 3 night stay but Once Again was full.  A few Google searches revealed another gem, Canale Hostel https://www.canalehostel.com/  This family run business was great.  We splurged on the fancy room so it was quieter.  We ran the AC too much and toured even more.  Michelle wisely picked a wicked Tuk Tuk based food tour with https://www.bangkokfoodtours.com/  Super fun.

We goofed of with our new friend Chantal from the Netherlands on her last day in Bangkok.  Fun times on the public boat taxi thingy and lots of sizzling hot walks to temples.  Sadly we eventually had to taxi out of Bangkok, and fly out again to Phuket our next home for a while.  Phuket is awesome.  Quieter, greener and way less pollution.

Some movie links for this time period

We hopped onto the public boat for a inexpensive tour of a 6 KM stretch.  This thing get's up ang going when it wants too.  Totally fun ride.

It turns out the Pad Thai in this area is the best in Bangkok.  Wood fired heat with forced air fans.  Heat and sparks.  An experience chef wears protection here

Thailand is host to over 300 temples.  Add to that temples in nearby countries.  This flower market never closes.  Crazy

A Tuk Tuk is a fun way to get around.  Super safe for sure.

It turns out the Pad Thai in this area is the best in Bangkok.  Wood fired heat with forced air fans.

Went for a 6 KM walk looking for a power bank
I'd rather walk than sit for as long in a taxi
Great way to breathe in the culture.

Was recommended the reasonable sized MBK Shopping Center
2000 shops 8 floors.
Crazy traffic enroute, totally cool

Paper hearts

One of a few waterways some of which offer boats

The top of Once Again had this nice terrace

Cool spot for dinner

We lived 1 KM away "Old Town" Bangkok
This spot was fun, crazy and noisy.

Our hostel had cool lighting outside the room

The view from our hostels cute dining area

Found an excellent Vegan place called Mango
Way too much food per serving

Time to properly dress for Temples and head out for a Tuk Tuk tour

Tuk Tuks are interesting motorcycle car thingies with seats for at least 2

The best restaurants have food cooked in the alleyway in the back
Seriously !

With 300 or more Temples, the demand for flowers is epic
This flower market is open 24/7/365

Our guide bought us fruit.  It was cutf or us and 3 tastes were left for us to add
Combinations of salt, sugar and chilly spice
I'm converted.

During the Food Tour we hit a Temple late at night
With no crowds, it was awesome

The King of this time period ordered the people document their knowledge into tablets like these for preservation.  Smart guy.  Backups are important :-)

These were a yummy desert

They were made on this grill.
I think she is sick of them by now

A Tuk Tuk making the jump to light speed

We were given these flowers and shown how to fold them
They were later given a an offering to a temple

The flower market

Boat taxi map

The boat taxi

The conditions of a local community in our area

Iguana trying to chill

Myself and Chantal

We checked out a few Temples on a Sunday
Turned out to be also a day of a big bike ride
This part of the city was closed down

Ronald in Namaste at the airport.

Our Phuket plane required a bus to the tarmac

See ya Bangkok, back in a while

A slight upgrade in Phuket
Swissotel in Kamala beach
It was a good deal, why not

This place is great for parents
Here the kids are treated to a bubble party with Christmas decorated dudes

As it's rainy season, chances of being pounded by a daily storm is good
This bad boy missed us by a few KM's

More soon
